Privatisation in Education and Culture

 

Sell-out, drainage and pauperisation, these are the terms that characterise European governments' approach to culture, which should be the pride of European nations, as well as hallmark of Europe all over the globe. This we show by examples ranging from youth clubs, sports facilities, libraries, theatres and the media to secondary education and education for migrants. While the introduction of tuition fees could be avoided in some regions, university education is characterised by a growing lack of access and denial of completion for the poorer social classes, a narrowing of contents (McBachelors and McMasters and 'moduling' of courses in the framework of the Bologna process), and an ever greater dependence of teaching and research on corporate sponsorship. Finally, we shall discuss ways of resisting these tendencies by common actions all over Europe.

La privatisation en éducation et en culture

 

Vente à la baisse, érosion et pauperisation, ceci sont les termes qui caractérisent l'approche des gouvernements européens à la culture qui devrait être la fierté des nations européennes et l'étendard de l'Europe partout au monde. Ceci nous allons le démontrer par des exemples rangeant de clubs de jeunesse, facilités sportives, bibliothèques, théâtres et média à l'éducation secondaire et l'éducation pour migrants. Tandis que l'introduction de frais d'études a pu être évité dans quelques régions, l'éducation universitaire est caractérisée par un accès toujours plus restreint et le refus d'accomplissement pour les classes plus pauvres, un appauvrissement des contenus (des McBacheliers et McMasters et la 'modulisation' des études dans le cadre du processus de Bologna) et une dépendence toujours plus accrue de l'enseignement et de la recherche des donations des entreprises. Finalement, nous allons discuter des chemins de résistance à ces tendances par l'action commune partout en Europe.

Privatisierung in Kultur und Bildung

 

Ausverkauf, Austrocknung und Pauperisierung, diese Begriffe kennzeichnen den Ansatz der europäischen Regierungen im Kulturbereich, der eigentlich der Stolz der europäischen Staaten und das Schaufenster Europas überall in der Welt sein sollte. Das werden wir an Beispielen von Jugendklubs, Sporteinrichtungen, Bibliotheken, Theatern und Medien bis hin zur Sekundarschule und dem Deutschunterricht für MigrantInnen aufzeigen. Während die Einführung von Studiengebühren in einigen Regionen hat vermieden werden können, ist die Universitätsbildung von immer geringerer Zugänglichkeit und Durchlässigkeit für die Ärmeren gekennzeichnet, einer Verschmälerung der Inhalte (McBachelors und McMasters und „Modulisierung“ des Studiums im Zuge des Bolognaprozesses) und einer immer größeren Abhängigkeit von Forschung und Lehre von Sponsoren aus der Wirtschaft. Schließlich werden wir Wege des Widerstands gegen diese Tendenzen durch gemeinsame Aktionen überall in Europa diskutieren.

Privattac - Network Meeting

 

At a late stage of the meetings on privatisation (both the general as well as the specialised workshops on various areas such as water, railroads, energy/electricity, education and culture, housing etc.) our network meeting will serve as the last occasion for activists working on these matters as well as on related matters such as employment or economic democracy to get acquainted, exchange views and make common plans for action.

Privattac – Rencontre de reseau

 

A un stade avancé des rencontres sur les sujets de privatisation (de l'atelier général aussi bien que des séances spécialisées sur les secteurs de l'eau, les chemins de fer, l'énergie/l'électricité, l'éducation et la culture, le logement etc.) notre rencontre de reseau servira comme dernière occasion pour les activistes travaillant dans ce domaine ainsi que des sujets apparentés comme l'emploi ou démocratie économique de se rencontrer, d'échanger leurs points de vue et de faire de plans pour actions communes.

Privattac – Netzwerktreffen

 

Gegen Ende der Treffen zu Privatisierung (sowohl des allgemeinen Seminars als auch der spezialisierten Workshops zu verschiedenen Gebieten wie Wasser, Bahn, Energie/Elektrizität, Bildung und Kultur, Wohnen etc.) dient unser Netzwerktreffen als die letzte Gelegenheit für Aktivisten, die zu diesen oder auch verwandten Fragen wie Arbeit oder Wirtschaftsdemokratie arbeiten, einander kennenzulernen, Perspektiven auszutauschen und gemeinsame Aktionspläne zu schmieden.
