Please find enclosed a picture of the so-called HARICOTRON street pedagogy device.

The name mimics the SYNCHROTRON scientific machine, inviting to some kind of experiment.

This device is intended to introduce people in the street to the GATS negociations for free trade, where anything is to become something to sell (une marchandise).

On a saturday morning you cannnot attract people with such thema. They would not listen to you, nor take a paper.

Then, just give them a BEAN, a tiny bean in their hand.... They would not drop it, want to give it back to you.

Then make a side step and invite the person to drop the tiny bean in the Haricotron box labelled "I don't bother".

Just before person gets rid of the bean, notify that there are two other boxes "Yes" or "Not", a wiser choice. Why ? Because "I don't bother" sits in the middle of a Scale, while Yes and No sit at the extreme ends of the scale, and are very likely to produce a result....See next message for the end of the text

Attac Pays d'Aix proposes to people in the street to play for a moment with that beautiful and strange device.---Three volunteering players will pretend to be important negociators. They would care only for their own territory, and try to attract a golden ball meant to represent : capital investment, full employment...

Hi Attac activists, Could we share ideas ...to be understandable outside of Attac, in the street, during a public event ?In our local group in Provence, we developed to that end some effective devices with common properties:-Unusual, strange !  People come to  have a look.-Delivering simple, clear and strong messages. An introduction to ask for more.-Inviting people to act (press a button, turn a wheel) in a symbolic way...mind is free for a moment-Aesthetic, pacific. The media take pictures and carry onwards our message...3 pictures are attached. They show a fake roadsign "Citizen Choices/Carrefour des choix de société/Kreuzung zur Wahl der Gesellschaft" - the German language version was produced at the Austrian AktionsAkademie in Linz.Year after year, pictures of the panel appear on bookcover, publications, cartoons....I will try to describe other tools that support explanations about  : sharing the wealth, choosing concurrence or cooperation, learning about GATS, about the European Treaty...It is fun and effective at the same time.
