The European Employment Strategy: Genesis and Development
The "European Employment Strategy" should be - in my opion - one of the major subjects of our network. As an introduction to the history of the EES, you can read this article below:
"ABSTRACT ( The conclusions of the European summits since 1992 and the content of the
Amsterdam Treaty seem to imply that the employment issue has finally reached the Community
agenda. How far does the new approach differ from policy? How were the changes of the 1990s
achieved? This article reviews previous EU social policy as regards employment issues, then
analyses the different elements of the European employment strategy (EES) and offers a
preliminary assessment. A major question addressed is how, compared to previous regulation
methods, this new process is likely to affect the legitimacy and efficiency of ‘Social Europe’."
What do we meen when we talk about "flexibilité"?
As Jean-Claude Barbier shows in his presentation, we don't have the same meenings for one word (exemple: flexibility, flexibilité, Flexibilität). So the french sociologist shows us one of the sources of misunderstanding - one of the risks for our cooperation at the european level:
The ETUC "looks forward" after Lisbon treaty
"The European Trade Union Confederation (ETUC) looks forward to the entry into force of the Lisbon Treaty on 1 December, and in particular of the rights guaranteed under the Charter of Fundamental Rights, now part of the Treaty." ETUC

"EU social and employment laws have had a massive impact on the UK economy, accounting for 25 percent of the total cost of regulation in the UK over the past decade. Looking ahead, UK laws derived from EU social legislation will cost the British economy more than £71 billion between 2010 and 2020, even if no new laws are passed in that time." Open Europe
Nous voyons ainsi de quelle manière "l'espace des possibles" (Bourdieu) est "enrichi" au niveau européen par des positions libéralistes issues de traditions nationales.
translations of the participating groupes’ presentations
Thanks to Coorditrad, we put online the first translations of the participating groupes’ presentations.
See the links down of the page http://attac2.attac.org/fr/groups/labour-and-employment-europe
It’s at the same time an opportunity to call again for papers. It’s a god way to get to know the different positions. The communication thus prepared, it will be easier to pass straight to the planification of common action.
Again, many thanks to the voluntary work of Coorditrad.
