We, the participants in Genoa 2011 “They are the crisis, we the hope” meeting in an international assembly on July 24th, after yesterday’s major demonstration, hereby undertake to build together the course that will lead us to the 2013 World Social Forum, to be held in the Maghreb-Mashrek region.
For the first time the movements, social actors, activists and communities from the world over will meet in our shared Mediterranean region, hosted by the revolutions for dignity.
The Forum and its constructive process offer us an exceptional opportunity for national and international convergence to strengthen the field of forces and alliances necessary for a true alternative to the global crisis, based on the radicalization of democracy and rights, on another way of producing, of living, of consuming, of living together, capable of returning to sender the devastating anti-crisis remedies imposed by the dominant powers.
We undertake to work together on setting up two major international events in Italy:
- In the coming months, an open seminar for the reconstruction of a public and participatory European space managed by the social actors from our continent who give life to the struggles, the claims, the alternatives and the best practices for a different Europe.
- In 2012, the tenth anniversary of the Florence ESF held in 2002, a Mediterranean Forum event, a major meeting of European movements with the female and male protagonists of the revolutions for dignity on the Southern shore.
We will organize participation in the anti-G20 demonstration in Nice in November, for climate justice in Durban in December and in Brazil during the UN Conference on sustainable development Rio+20, in the Alternative World Water Forum in March 2012 in Marseilles. We will mobilize for the Migrants’ day of action on December 18th 2011.
The “Italian network towards the WSF” will be a horizontal and participatory network, which will reach the highest levels of socializing and democratizing other-world international relations, and will ensure the fullest possible participation of social actors, communities and territorial representatives.
The network will meet in Rome on September 4th to establish a schedule for its programme. This will also be an opportunity to discuss any possible convergences for action on the national level in relation to mobilization in the “hot Autumn” of many struggles and resistances which we are all preparing for in our country.
